First Drive: The Nissan LEAF Is Roomy Inside [VIDEO]

By Nick Chambers

It's been a whirlwind of a week here in Japan. As one of the few people on the planet invited to test drive a pre-production model of the Nissan LEAF, I've been given inside access to one of the most important historical events of our time. And, while I've got much more content coming, I've been a bit time constrained so far, so I wanted to start off by answering one easy question.

In fact, the question of whether or not a tall person will fit comfortably in the LEAF is one of the most frequently asked questions I get. And, after my test drive yesterday I can tell you, unequivocally, yes you will fit. Nissan has pulled off a design coup with the LEAF. As you'll see in the video below, not only is there enough head- and legroom for really tall people in both the front and back seats, there is a bounty of room overflowing from the roomy cup.

While the car is technically classified as a compact car — the same size class as the Corolla — it feels so much bigger than that class does justice, it's almost a shame we have to place it in a class. I'm not exaggerating or using hyperbole when I say that it's a small car on the outside only.

So, take a look at the vid and decide for yourself.
