A seller on eBay is auctioning an electric 1970 Legrand, named after the man who built it, Glenn Legrand, and supposedly based on plans given to the creator by Popular Mechanics magazine some forty years ago.

The car is guaranteed to get some surprisingly interesting looks when driving in public, but as far as specifications go, the electric vehicle is shockingly decent. If the seller is correct, the 1970 Legrand has a range of approximately 50 miles and a top speed of 55 miles per hour, although it’s noted the seller has never attempted such a speed.

Built on the body of a Volkswagen Beetle, the car is powered by a 72 volt battery pack and an 8 horsepower motor, and has a clutch-less stick-shift. The interior of the 1970 Legrand is solid walnut, which is nice, if you’re looking for a touch of luxury in your novelty transportation. The car must be picked up or shipped from Peru, Illinois, but does some with the complete article about the car and its maker. The auction is currently set to close on May 9.
